Real defense steps up and attack beats SF Celtic Reserves en route to 2-0 win

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- A 2-0 final score in favor of the Tricolores over SF Celtic Reserves on Sunday at the Silver Terrace field wouldn’t, on the face of it, seem to come down to a game of inches. But that was the case until the end of the first half when Fabio Marques took a strong shot and Amine Abalil was well positioned to score the first goal.

In the 12th minute, goal kick for Celtics. Matt tried to clear the first time but the ball came back. Ever cleared it and Bobby recovered it. He tried a 60-yard long ball to Fabio in the top of the arc. Fabio tried to head it, but missed the target.

Three minutes later, throw-in for Celtics. Humberto recovered the ball and played with Cris. He sent it to Fabio who played it first time to Amine. He dribbled two players and gave it to Fabio. He waited Amine to start running towards the box and gave him a nice through ball, but the linesman called him offside.

In the 17th minute, Mike sent a long ball to Amine in the offensive field. Amine tried to bring it down, but missed it. He then got it back from the defender and tried a 40-yard shot. The defender inside the box put the arms in front of the ball path and deflected it, but the referee did not call the penalty kick. One minute later, Pitufo recovered the ball in the left wing. He played it back with Bobby who gave it first time to Murillo. He called a one-two with Humberto and carried towards the end line. He called another one-two with Humberto and received a nice assist inside the box. He tried the shot, but it hit the post. The defender then cleared the rebound.

In the 24th minute, Cris cleared the ball with a bike kick. Amine brought it down and gave it to Humberto. He opened with Murillo in the left wing. Murillo saw Amine entering the box in the right wing. He took his time and took a nice low shot, but right on the goalkeeper who saved by surprise. Four minutes later, Ever sent a nice long ball to Fabio. He saw Amine entering the box and sent him a through ball. He took too long to decide on opening it to Murillo in the left wing and lost the ball.

It then finally happened. In the 39th minute, corner kick for Celtics. Mike went up high and caught it. He started the counter-attack with Humberto. He carried the ball across the whole field and tried a shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. The goalkeeper played with the right wing. He tried a pass but Bobby was smarter and took it from him. He saw Fabio free and sent the assist to him. Fabio set it and took a strong shot from outside of the box. The goalkeeper managed to save it, but Amine got the rebound and scored a nice goal for Real. Real 1-0.

One minute later, Scott managed to clear it out to Murillo. He gave the forward a nice hat and opened to Ever. He played with Cris in the midfield. He quickly sent a through ball to Amine between three players. Amine sent a nice low cross to Fabio. He tried a first time shot, but missed the target.

Fabio then wasted an easy opportunity right before the end of the half. In the 44th minute, Ever sent a long header towards the Celtics box. The defender jumped too high and hit the ball with the hand inside the box. The referee called a free kick for Real right outside of the box. As Real players were setting up for the free kick, the assistant referee called the main referee and indicated the foul was actually inside the box. The referee correctly reverted the call to a penalty. Fabio took it and the goalkeeper saved it.

The SF Celtic Reserves decided to come back to the 2nd half and tie the game. Throw-in for Celtics in the 47th minute. Fabio recovered the ball, put it between the midfielder legs and inverted the game with Leandro in the other side. He dribbled two defenders and gave a back-heel pass to Amine. He tried a first time shot, but it went wide off the far post.

In the 53rd minute, Matt won the ball and headed it to Bobby. He opened with Amine. He carried it inside the box and tried a low cross to Fabio, but he was not in the right position. Amine recovered the ball and laid it back to Bobby who tried a 30-yard shot but it went inches wide of the near post. Three minutes later, throw-in for Celtics. Humberto recovered the ball and started the counter-attack with Leandro in the left wing. He switched to the other side to Fabio. He entered the box and shot, but it went inches wide off the right post.

In the 60th minute, Matt controlled the ball perfectly in the defense field and opened with Ever. He carried the ball in the right wing, got rid of two defenders and, as he dribbled the third one, he got fouled right in front of the assistant referee. The main referee correctly called the free kick for Real, but the assistant asked the referee to caution Fabio for discent. The assistant referee makes the mistake and Fabio gets cautioned...go figure. Humberto sent a nice cross inside the box, but the defender cleared it. Leandro got the ball and sent it back inside. Fabio trapped it with the chest and got rid of two defenders and shot a strong low torpedo as the goalkeeper came out of the goal. Real 2-0.

Three minutes later, free kick for Real. Amine sent the ball to Humberto, but the defender took it. Humberto presisted and recovered the ball and played with Leandro. He saw Fabio in between two defenders and sent a through ball. Fabio dribbled the defender twice and shot, but it went inches off the far post.

In the 84th minute, Omar and Cris created a nice combination in the left wing. Humberto got the pass and switched the ball to Amine in the right wing. Amine saw Murillo opened in the left wing and switched it again. Murillo tried a first time shot, but the ball went over the bar. Two minutes later, Murillo created an amazing play dribbling several defenders and sending a perfect through ball to Bobby. He tried to chip it over the goalkeeper instead of passing it to Fabio and the keeper saved. Cris recovered the ball and played with Leandro. He opened with Omar. Omar got passed the ball between two defenders inside the box and shot. The goalkeeper rebounded and the ball hit the top bar. Murillo tried to score off the rebound but missed the ball in the air...
